Kentucky Autism Training Center provides information on low-tech communication tools to improve communication in the foster home or other settings. It will teach strategies to support language acquisition in a child’s natural environment.

This training is provided by the University of Louisville Autism Center. Participants will learn what ABI is and why it is an important technique to parent a child with behaviors or special needs. They will learn how to implement these evidence based parenting techniques to help a foster youth be successful.

Helping children heal from abuse or neglect is rewarding but hard. Like the children in their care, resource parents often feel overwhelmed by strong feelings and are unsure how to take care of themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
During this training, participants will explore the following objectives:

3. What are some tips for parenting children who have been traumatized?
4. The barriers to good self-care.
